what's information without a good resource?

Burning  trash  is  a  harmful  and  unjust  way to manage waste. Incineration does not  make  waste  disappear—instead  it  converts  waste  into  air  pollution  and  toxic ash that contaminate the surrounding  communities,  which more often than  not are Communities   of Color and low income. And while incinerator companies  label  incineration  as  clean  energy, incineration is one of the most polluting  and  most  expensive  methods  to generate energy. Read our New Jersey’s Dirty Secret Report to find out more about the way these polluters have been able to take advantage of a clean energy program and how we can stop them. Here's some resources to look into:

Check out The New School’s Tishman Environment and Design Center report titled U.S. Municipal Solid Waste Incinerators: An Industry in Decline for more about the history and economics behind incinerators, as well as the health impacts of incinerators, including the negative impacts to maternal health.

Watch our New Jersey’s Dirty Secret webinar (in the Webinar's tab up above!) to find out more about how the Renewable Portfolio Standard program, a rate-payer funded program specifically earmarked for clean energy, has been used to fund polluting incinerators in New Jersey, and how CRCQL in Chester, PA and Breathe Free Detroit in Detroit, MI are similarly fighting to protect their communities from the harms of incinerators.

During this webinar, the speakers shared the following resources:

New Jersey is subsidizing one of the dirtiest energy sources imaginable: burning garbage. New Jersey’s incinerators are in our low-income communities and communities of color, and they are some of the biggest polluters. To find out more take a look at these webinars:
